Specifically, companies want to hire individuals who have clear and empathetic communication, effective research skills, and critical thinking abilities. This versatile major will prepare you to succeed in a variety of careers including marketing, learning and development, higher education, and corporate or non-profit organizations.
Organizations can train you in the specifics and technicalities of the job when you’re first hired, so they want to hire individuals who collaborate, have a growth mindset, and can competently communicate in a variety of contexts including in person and over digital media. In the age of AI, effective written and verbal communication skills are more important than ever if you want to be successful in the workforce.
Here at HIU, our Communication Studies major with an emphasis in Strategic and Organizational Communication will equip you with these skillsets to positively impact your professional and personal lives. In our program, you will learn about communication theory, research, and practice. You will engage in classes that cover a variety of topics as interpersonal communication, social media marketing, research design and methods, mass media writing and communication, organizational behavior, nonverbal communication, and small group communication.
